About The Artist
Farwa Moledina is a Muslim artist of Yemeni-Tanzanian heritage. She was raised in Dubai and currently lives and works in the UK.
Moledina's work, inspired by art history, architecture, and her own cultural background, and characterised by recurring patterns, delves into themes of faith, family, and the histories of Muslim women. The patterns she designs are inspired by characteristics of Islamic Design, such as those of recurrence, symmetry and abstraction and often take the form of large textile installations.
She has exhibited widely in the UK including at Ikon Gallery, Arnolfini Gallery and the New Art Gallery Walsall. Internationally, she has shown in Lahore as part of a collateral exhibition for the Lahore Biennale, and at Warehouse421 in Abu Dhabi. Currently, Moledina is showing a newly commissioned piece There is still living here at Arnolfini Arts in Bristol as part of Threads: Breathing Stories into Materials. She also has a solo show on at The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum in Cheltenham, on until 17th September 2023.
Her work has been acquired by the Government Art Collection, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, The New Art Gallery Walsall and private collectors.
