2025
In the summer of 2024, Moledina was commissioned by SD Projects in Folkestone to engage with refugee womens groups in Kent, alongside women from the Dover Masjid. The collaboration resulted in a design that draws on personal references shared during pattern-making session: architectural details, memories, heirlooms. The final fabrics, composed of drawings and embroidery done by the women, are used as the basis of a majlis - a social seating space used in Arab and Muslim households. This is Moledina's second majlis installation.
The reading room or غرفة القراءة is open to all, providing 200+ books, materials for making, tea, coffee, and a sense of communal safety. In Hammad Nasar's words - a pocket utopia.
Made in collaboration with Shahed Saleem, SD Projects, and women from the local East Kent community.
